Wheelie Bins & Recycling

You can access information about your bin collection dates for your property on the following link.
www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200084/bins_rubbish_and_recycling

You can also download the bin collection dates calendar to print off or have on your mobile phone to make sure you don’t miss your bin days.

Top Tip: Why not set up reminder alerts now on your mobile phone to make sure you don’t miss your bin days.

You can also order replacement or additional bins along with lots of other useful information including how to get rid of larger unwanted items collected for free by Manchester City Council. You can order replacement bins here.

The size of your grey waste bin is generally decided by how many persons are in your household although this can change should anyone have a medical condition that causes extra waste material. As a general rule your property will be allowed one 140 Litre grey (This is the small bin) bin for up to 4 occupants, 5 to 7 occupants can have the larger 240 Litre bin and above 7 can have 2 lots of 240 Litre bins. For more information on this, please click here

At the end of your tenancy can you please make sure that your recycle bins are not contaminated, i.e., only cans, glass and plastics in your brown bin, paper in your blue bins. Green bins are for food and garden waste only. You will be charged for decontaminating the recycling bins and a deduction will be made on your deposit should we find that your recycling bins require decontaminating. Can you also make sure that there is an appropriate amount of space still left inside your grey wheelie bin for the incoming tenant to use until the next bin collection date. E.g. If the grey bin gets collected a week after your tenancy ends and the collection is every two weeks then you need to ensure that at least half of the bin is empty for the new tenants to use. You will be charged for not providing appropriate bin space for incoming tenants to use as a private contractor will have to empty the bin to make the space.

Please note that your grey wheelie bin is listed on your property inventory when you first move into your property and it is your responsibility to ensure it is still at the property when you end your tenancy. You will need to pay for any stolen grey wheelie bin and you should obtain a crime reference number to provide to the City Council and the landlord.

Private refuse contractors

If you do use private refuse collection contractors then make sure that they have a waste carrier license otherwise you could be fined for their illegal activity.
